Skype Subscriptions
Where is Skype going and is Android going to play an important part

There are many rummers floating around the cloud at the moment that Ebay is preparing to sell Skype and the mostly likely suitor is Google.
I have perviously written an article titled Google to buy Skype??? and pointed out that the purchase of Skype by Google could be a match made in heaven. The pairing of Google's Android mobile phone platform and the Skype phone service would provide a fantastic new dynamic to mobile communications.
I think that its only a matter of time before this pairing happens.
Giving credit where credit is due, this was scooped by Adam Curry and John Dvorak when they discussed a powerpoint seen between two seats on an aeroplane about how Skype was replacing Email as the preferred method of communication. Check out No Agenda episode 26 on the 12th April.
Skype now offers its customers three unlimited calling plans... Pricing plans:
Unlimited Country
- €2.95/month
- €3.39 incl. VAT
Unlimited Europe
- €3.95/month
- €4.54 incl. VAT
Unlimited World
- €8.95/month
So this has got me thinking. Is Skype preparing to get into the big leagues by positioning themselves on the Android platform and offering low cost call services. This could or would make the idea of using your own network providers call plan rediculase if you can use Skype to call anyone with in your current country for €2.95 a month.
Ok so you would have to pay for the mobile internet connection to run the VOIP service but how much of an upset would this be to the telecoms industry?
Currently the Three mobile phone network in the UK is offer a mobile on prepay and month subscription with the Skype service.
So this concept is not new but would we see a similar relationship with Android + Skype and Network with a similar relationship to Apple and O2 or ATT happen and what would happen to the beloved Skype service.
I am really interested to see how this is all going to unfold.
