Stop High Speed Two!

January 11th 2012

I have signed the e-petition because I think that it is £33b White Elepant this Nation can ill afford while so many struggle with austerity.

On the 10th January 2011, High Speed Two or simply HS2 was given the 'go-ahead'. I am not impressed. I am actually so unimpressed I signed the e-petition to Stop HS2. Why? That is a great questions. Continue »

Caro Emerald - That Man

October 24th 2011

A fantastic fun and enjoyable music video perfectly matched to an energetic playful song.

I came across Caro Emerald this past Sunday night when watching the Strictly Come Dancing Week 4 Results Show with my Mother and Grandmother. I think the song is really fun and energetic. Later that evening I had a look for the video on the YouTube and was blown away. Continue »

I like articulate, elegant and intelligent women

June 19th 2011

Why are orange incoherent tattooed vacant women venerated as the pinnacle of success and sexuality?

There has been an incredible volume of column inches printed in the past week debating the sexualisation of girls and the general dumbing down of women as society continues to objectify women. I think this is quite frankly a travesty which roles back the accomplishments of courageous women who promoted women's rights and equality. Noteably Emily Pankhurst, leader of the British suffragette movement. Continue »

Ubuntu Tips: Enabling mod_rewrite and Virtual Hosts in Apache

March 23rd 2011

Set up a Virtual Host on your machine to test sites and coding more vigorously ahead of deploying to production.

As a developer you may like to run software such as Wordpress or Drupal on your development server and use the htaccess file for mod_rewrite. By setting up Virtual Host on your machine you can have your development machine masquerade as the live machine and test sites and coding more vigorously ahead of deploying to production. Virgin Pendolino standard class disappointment

March 21st 2011

I found my experience of the Virgin Pendolino standard class carriage while comfortable, dark and narrow.

On Sunday the 20th March I travelled back from Birmingham on a Virgin Pendolino service to London Euston. This was after the conclusion of my friend Richard's Stag Do ahead of his wedding in April. I did push the boat out and purchase a first class ticket for the return journey to London. This was fortunate because I had a disgusting hangover. I found it interesting to compare the journey up to Birmingham on the Saturday in standard class to that of first class on the Sunday. Continue »

Ubuntu Tips: Radio Tray

February 15th 2011

I love to listen to No Agenda Stream with Radio Tray because of the serendipity.

I have installed Radio Tray as a simple solution to playing the No Agenda Stream with the smallest foot print possible on my Ubuntu desktop. If you are not familiar with the No Agenda Stream it is where Adam Curry and John C Dvorak broadcast No Agenda live on Thursday and Sunday at 09:00 PST, 17:00 GMT. When Adam are John are not recording No Agenda live the No Agenda Stream is an Open Source Radio station powered by listeners across the World suggesting songs via the No Agenda Stream DropBox account. Ubuntu Tips: Floppy Drive

January 27th 2011

If you have been unsuccessfully mounting a floppy disk in Ubuntu 10.10 use this solution to access the data on that diskette.

It's been quite a while since I have last used a floppy disk. I am sure like many people you have a house or office littered with old diskettes. I have however been unable to successfully mount a floppy disk in Ubuntu 10.10. After a bit of investigation I have reminded myself that it was again impossible to mount floppy disks in Ubuntu 10.04. This was because of an update to the udisks package. Continue »
