Amazon Kindle: My Kindle has arrived!

I came home on Tuesday the 4th January to find my Kindle had arrived. Now I have lived with it for a couple of days I can say, I love it!

So my Kindle has arrived. I am extremely impressed with this new addition to my gadget collection. I was very surprise by the actual size of the unit. It is very compact, light and comfortable to hold. I am very pleased that I did not purchase a first or second generation of the device. I think that the third iteration of the hardware is very ergonomic and simple to use now Amazon has removed many of the pitfalls of the earlier versions. Namely the shape and position of the next and previous buttons for turning pages.

I am very pleased with Amazon's decision to use a graphite finish for third version of the Kindle. As a owner of a white Macbook I resent all consumer products finished in white. I think that it is an extremely poor choice of finish because with in a matter of weeks your new piece of electronics will look a pale shade of yellow. In time the device will start to polish up from the accumulation of grease from your hands. It is my impression that the graphite finish of my new Kindle will ware considerably better than my grubby three year old Macbook.

The best experience of the becoming a new Kindle user was that Amazon dispatches the device linked to my account. There was no need to fiddle around typing in my account username and password to register my new Kindle. It simply worked.

The only challenge I had was getting on to the Internet to begin browsing the store and download my first book. The cause of this grievance and delay was caused by the strong password for my wireless connection. Even with the frustrations of typing a strong password into the Kindle on it's little keyboard it was not overly onerous.

If you are interested why not check out a few photos I took while unboxing my Kindle on Flickr. I on the other hand will return to reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
