I have just finished listening to the latest episode of This Week in Google, with Leo Laporte, Gina Trapani, Jeff Jarvis and Pete Cashmore. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the This Week in Google it is a podcast cover news about Google and other cloud software provides. Despite the breath of Internet based application in the 'cloud' the focus is on Google because of the diversity of their products. This year Google ran an advert to promote their search engine to all the viewers. The advertisement is referred to as, Parisian Love.
Video 1: Parisian Love, credit Google.
The advertisements shows a series of searches, for locations, translations, flights, churches and products. I really like this advert because if focuses your attention solely upon the product. The is no clever marketing wizardry. Its is simple, clean and elegant. In fact I would go as far as writing it is very Apple.
I found the commentary by Leo Laporte, Gina Trapani and Jeff Jarvis on lasts weeks TWiG highly amusing because they were all positive that Google would be advertising anything from Android to Apps during this slot. Just because Google is the market leader for search does not mean they should not promote their search engine.
In fact I think it is important they make big advertisements during events like the Super Bowl. Google needs to revenue produced through the search engine to create the capital to allow invest in the amassing products they continue to build. Google is not just a search company. But advertisement revenue from search does pay the bills.
