Cutting carbon emissions by 10% in 2010
An article about the grass roots programme to lower Britain's carbon emissions by 10% in 2010
Author: Matthew Wittering | Published: 8th October 2009
The goal for the 10:10 project is to achieve a 10% cut in the UK’s carbon emissions in 2010. This will be a difficult task for all who agree to the projects goals. I like many others have signed up to the campaign to actively work to reduce our Nations carbon emissions.
Climate change is a subject which I feel strongly about. I believe that we should be working as an international community to develop less wasteful practices and generate energy from clean renewable sources to power our lives. I also believe that in the mean time we must rely on Nuclear Fission to lower carbon dioxide emissions in power production. I understand this will not be the preferred choice for all. But it is a valid alternative to coal and gas.
Franny Armstrong, on the 10:10 website wrote in their Call to Arms manifesto:
If you put yeast into a jar with some sugar, they will gobble up the energy as quickly as possible, reproduce wildly out of control and then wipe themselves out in their own waste products.
The most important issue central to the 10:10 campaign is changing your views so you will modify your life to contribute to lowering Britain's carbon emissions in 2010. The task of cutting the Nations emissions will be a difficult endeavor but simple small changes can be made to make progress toward realizing this auspicious goal. Hopefully then we will not end up like the yeast living in the jar.
Climate change now is an important and real danger. Action now will help to undo damage We have caused. Failing to act now will continue to create unnecessary damage to our planet. Hopefully Political Leaders will find common ground at the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen during December of this year.
I would now like to close this article with the following thought. We must learn to better coexist with our surrounding environment, fostering the growth of life instead of excessive polluting concrete edifices. I am not a greeny. I am a young British adult who believe strongly in adapting culture to live in balance with our surroundings opting for public transport rather than personal. As we move into the Age of Aquarius we will be presented with the opportunity to fix the wrongs or otherwise witness the fall of our civilisation. Other great and powerful ancient civilisations built by the Aztecs, Greeks, Romans and Egyptians have risen and fallen through time. Are Westerners destined to join these once powerful societies? Should we at least attempt to prevent such a fait. I will do my part, following the 10 point checklist to do my part.
