iMac touch

Do I really need a touch interface on my desktop computer?

Author: Matthew Wittering | Published: 24th August 2010

So the Internet has been getting over excited by the idea of an Apple OS 10.7 iMac or MacBook with an iOS touch interface. So what? A touch interface on a desktop computer is nothing new. HP have their TouchSmart PCs running Windows 7. What everyone is getting over excited about is a new patent from Apple using their touch technology on an iMac or MacBook. Continue

Buzz Off!

My comments on why I have not adopted Buzz and instead turned it off for a second time.

Author: Matthew Wittering | Published: 22nd August 2010

About seven days ago I reactivated Google Buzz. This morning I again turned off the service after reading Leo Laporte's latest blog post, Buzz Kill. I feel now how I felt about the service when it was released a year ago, why do I need another social network and doesn't this replicate my Twitter account. Personally I believe I did not see or take full advantage of the service because I am no longer using a smartphone and in particular an Android smartphone. Continue

Should I get an Android smartphone?

I am not sure which is the best Android smartphone. Can you help?

Author: Matthew Wittering | Published: 18th August 2010

Recently I wrote a blog post title, Life without an iPhone. I am wondering what I should do next. The phone I am using at the moment is hardly best or second best in class. I am using a Motorola F3. It is not the best phone I have ever had. Truthfully it is a spare phone to run my now dead Spanish mobile phone number. But I am not sure which way to go now I do not have an iPhone. Do I buy a Nokia and be done with it or should I get an Android smartphone? Continue

Life without an iPhone

I am now iPhoneless and enjoying my decision to return the iPhone 4

Author: Matthew Wittering | Published: 10th August 2010

On Friday 23rd July I posted back my iPhone 4 to O2. I send the phone back because I was extremely unhappy with the news and comments from Apple concerning the reported signal issues. I was not suffering from any great ill effects caused by the antenna issues, however I wanted to return the device before I was stuck with a problematic device for the full duration of the contract. The idea of trying to run an iPhone 4 with a less than capable antenna for 24 months is not appealing. Continue

6th July the BBC reported after a Freedom of Information request that the Government has spend tens of thousands of pounds developing iPhone and iPod touch applications. Despite being very well intentioned is this really the best way tax payers money should be spent. Especially in a down trodden economy. Are there not more pressing things to procure? Or heaven forbid pay off a meagre sliver of the National Debt. Continue
