A Brief Introduction

My interests in computing include - Web 2.0 and user-generated content, Internet Marketing, Database design, Content Management Systems and Business Systems.

To date I am currently working towards a degree in Computer Science and Management at Loughborough University due to graduate in July 2009. The course has covered programming, database design, project management, human computer interaction, statistics, work place psychology, accounting and marketing.

It is my desire to work for an organisation which produces innovative products for the Internet and mobile devices.

Employment History

Andalucia Web Solutions

I moved to the south of Spain to work at Andalucia Web Solutions for one year as the practical component for a Diploma of Professional Studies. During the 13 months I lived in Spain I learnt Spanish to a basic level through two weekly lessons.

My responsibilities at Andalucia Web Solutions were diverse. They covered the management of advertisement placement on Andalucia.com, adding content to andalucia.com prepared by the Editor, building XHTML and CSS web sites for third party clients of Andalucia Web Solutions and Drupal centric internal projects.

This included working on the construction of Drupal managed site for Andalucia Web Solutions found at andaluciaws.com. The site re-launched during August of 2008.

While working at Andalucia Web Solutions I found my dissertation topic to produce a web based project management tool using PHP and MySQL. The site will manage multiple web design projects focusing on the cradle to grave activities of delivering projects. The data collected by the site will be used to track the progress of projects and report actual logged construction time against planned project duration.

URS Corp

In the summer of 2006 I took a summer work placement in the URS Information System team. During employment I worked on a project as both the project manager and programmer for a new web application called the Ergonomics Database.

The Ergonomics Database is a Health and Safety application produced to collect information about employee satisfaction or dissatisfaction concerning their immediate working environment and record actions taken to correct issues. This application was developed to be deployed on the URSIS the European Information System. The application was an ASP.NET site programmed using Visual Basic .NET and SQL Server. The methodology used to develop the product followed the PRINCE 2 project management framework to formally record the user requirement and specification.

Halcrow Group

While working for the Halcrow Group my main responsibility involved conducting research and reporting a competitor analysis for companies with pedestrian modelling products similar to Halcrow’s Paxport application. Information about the competitors was collected from their web site. The layout and content was also examined to provide evidence to inform decisions made during the second deliverable to identify the specification and content for a product page for Paxport on the Halcrow Intranet.

I was also involved with research into the newly formed Information Directorate in the Highways Agency for part of a report concerning the quality of data stored on the road network for retendering of maintenance contracts and the associated risk to silo management techniques across multiple databases and business units.
